After that we began to talk about how to write a hook paragraph. We studied some opening paragraphs of stories that I wrote and figured out what made them catchy and what didn't. The homework was to further detail the character's personality.

Today, we started in on character. We went over various terms of different types of characters such as protagonists/antagonists and round vs flat and so on. We then wrote character sketches on people we knew in real life, describing their appearance and into the more internal details of the person. After we finished that , we exchanged characters with another person and wrote short stories featuring that character.

Today, we had the first day of our creative writing unit. Those who needed to, finished up their essays from the test yesterday and those who were finished did our first daily writing prompt. Then we learned how to properly format dialogue and practiced writing dialogue in the voices of a variety of people. Then we wrote dialogue based on one of four scenarios that was handed in. The scenarios will be listed below. Finally, we got into partners to work on dialogue in a pair. There were cards with specific roles on them and each partner took on one of the roles to write the dialogue. There will be time to work on this assignment next class.
Scenarios:
-17 year old normally passive girl finds out her dad is totally not her dad, and she flips on her parents and they're totally stunned by her rage.
-A carefree 20 year old woman hitches a ride home with a cruel 39 year old man and something bad happens.
-A lonely 52 year old man is the only witness to a crime and is discussing it with a 36 year old man
-A compassionate 74 year old woman is lost in a bad part of town when she comes across a dishonest 18 year old man.

Today, we finished up Act Four of Macbeth. We only have two more days of reading the play from this point. After reading the play we went back to scene two of Act Four and compared Lady Macbeth and Lady Macduff as the only two mortal females in the play. We wrote a reflection comparing the two, their similarities and differences and if they were realistic characters.

Today, we began Act Three of Macbeth. We read the first three scenes. Then we worked on another translation assignment. This time we translated a scene, any scene of your choice, into text message lingo. You had to have at least three text messages for two characters, so a minimum of six messages. You can use text abbreviations and poor spelling and grammar, but you do have to explain any text abbreviations that you use on the off chance that I won't be able to understand them. This is to be handed in with a paragraph explaining why you chose the scene. You can use www.iphonetextgenerator.com to format your text conversation.
